The world's largest healthcare conference is on the horizon, geared up to welcome nearly 40,000 participants. From vendor booths on the exhibit hall floors to educational sessions, networking and peer-reviewed presentations, HIMSS can be overwhelming as much as it is exciting.

Each year, however, this event brings new insight to an ever-changing healthcare market. As we have seen financial recovery in the US market, and the continued application of intelligent automation, generative AI, regulatory pressures and enhanced functionality to operations, HIMSS 24 is not to be missed.

Here are a few of the things I’m most looking forward to next week in Orlando:

Revenue Cycle Technology Adoption Model session

From a financial perspective, there are several sessions on clinical informatics, value-based care payment models, technology’s role in payment and access to care.

However, I’m particularly excited to join Nicole Clawson, VP of Finance and RCM at Pennsylvania Mountain Healthcare Alliance (PMHA) in a sessions entitled, “Revenue Cycle Technology Adoption Model.”

This session will unpack research derived from more than 100 survey responses and more than 20 peer review feedback sessions with revenue cycle leaders aimed at developing just such a framework. PMHA will share how the Revenue Cycle Technology Adoption Model (RCMTAM), a vendor-agnostic technology adoption model, was applied at their organization to achieve their KPI-based revenue management goals.

    Other sessions to attend

HIMSS24 will feature many other interesting sessions next week, including “Personalizing the Patient Experience: Harnessing the Power of AI to Drive Real Transformational Change.” I expect this session to generate a lot of discussion surrounding patient care, loyalty and engagement. Robert Garret, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health will share how clinicians will apply AI in new ways to cancer detection, medication adherence and other innovations. The co-presenter Matt Renner, President of North America and Global Startups at Google Cloud will share insights about the infrastructure required to change the delivery of care in this digital age.

Another interesting session will feature Marvin Mickelson, System Director of Shared RCM at the University of Kansas Health System. He will speak on tech-enabled self-pay strategies, where he will outline best practices in self-pay collections and consumer engagement.

There also are several other sessions on AI, and I recommend attending as many of these sessions as you can to keep up with the rapidly evolving healthcare AI landscape.

And of course, the legendary Nick Saban, former head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, will speak on Friday, covering his successful tenure as head coach, and share his leadership principles for success. I expect he will draw a large crowd and I’m looking forward to getting a closer look at how he led his teams both on and off the field.

With the educational sessions, networking opportunities and the insights from the thousands of business partners on the exhibit hall, HIMSS 24 will certainly not disappoint. The information gained from this event is invaluable and often shapes the trajectory of the industry for the coming year.

Our team at FinThrive is excited to be exhibiting at the show and looking forward to seeing everyone in Orlando. In addition to an exciting booth giveaway, we’re showcasing some of our newest features, including:

    • Intelligent coverage detection
    • Analytics revamp
    • More EHR integrations

Enjoy the conference and hope to see you there!
